Is Bamboo Cotton Real Cotton Or As Good As The Real Cotton?

What does your mind visualize when you hear the word ‘Cotton’? Some of you must be in a soothing place that has so much warmth that it comforts you. Cotton speaks a poetic language. It creates a comfortable ambiance. It comes under our top preferences when shopping for fabric, be it for clothes or bedding. The properties it carries amaze you. It symbolizes purity and elegance. Thus, you can make your bed look luxurious and comfortable at the same time.

However, not all cotton fibers are the same. They are categorized differently, and not all of them share the same properties. They are known by different names, Egyptian Cotton, Sateen cotton, Bamboo Cotton, and others.

Let us have a look at whether Bamboo Cotton is real cotton or share the same characteristics as the real one.

“Natural Fibre Or Synthetic Fibre?

Cotton, a white fluffy ball, is a natural fiber and amazes everyone with its properties that only a natural fiber can bring with it. From farm fields to a finished product, it goes through an environmentally friendly process thus, it is undeniably a savior for the planet. Just looking at the field when cotton blossoms gives a sense of calmness and peace that the mind has been longing for. Moreover, when it is brought home to be spread on bedding it enhances the look of the entire room with the warmth and softness it brings with it.

On the other hand, Bamboo fiber originates from bamboo grass. Although bamboo itself is a natural fiber when it is manufactured, it is blended with synthetic fiber. Thus, bamboo cotton is a mixture of both fibers. It shares some similar properties with cotton including longevity and softness.

However, bamboo surpasses cotton in the field as it does not require any chemicals to grow while cotton does, and it needs less water to grow than cotton. With that, bamboo sprouts without any help, whereas cotton requires replanting and harvesting.

“Who Will Win The Title Of Strength?”

To some, this might be surprising that bamboo has properties that excel when compared to cotton. Both share the property of longevity, however when measured in strength, bamboo wins the title. The viscose from bamboo is a known fabric by many. Whether it is loungewear or bedding wear, it stays in shape longer than cotton. However, only if maintained properly, bamboo will prove to be stronger.

The maintenance does not follow a rocket science method. It is simple as it is easily found on the labels of the fabric. Moreover, you do not have to worry about laundry as it does not need to be washed as often as cotton needs. Since bamboo requires less color dye as compared to cotton, its bright colors last longer.

Similarly, when bamboo is compared to cotton in terms of softness, bamboo takes the lead. Although cotton has some top-quality fabrics that are softer than bamboo, its price surpasses its fine luxurious properties.

“The Better Odor?”

The bamboo floor mats are popular when it comes to buying mats for the house. Have you ever wondered why? It is because of its characteristic known as ‘Bamboo Kun’. It is the reason behind the antibacterial qualities that this fiber possesses. It keeps the clothes and bedding accessories including sheets and quilt covers safe from mites and bugs that might be harmful or even give us a skin reaction. Therefore, due to this, the odor from the fabric does not make one go dizzy rather, it keeps them fresh and healthy.

However, a similar characteristic is found in cotton as well. It protects from bed mites and bugs, but as bamboo protects you 100%, cotton protects you to some extent. Thus, bamboo gets the award for better odor. It also adds up to its other characteristic, cleanliness.

“Who Wins The Debate?”

It is a tough call to take. Some people might even have an answer to it but there is a high probability that it might be biased. Both bamboo and cotton share some similar properties. They both surpass each other in one or the other. If asked which fabric is healthier? It might not be as easy to decide.

Bamboo with surpassing cotton in so many ways still can create difficulty for you when it comes to maintenance. Moreover, only the correct bamboo fabric can provide you with such benefits, with its thread count lying between 250-and 350. Bamboo is more expensive than cotton. Therefore, cotton has categories that might surpass bamboo. For instance, a bamboo blanket is more costly than a cotton blanket, even though they share the same properties.

In conclusion, bamboo cotton is not real cotton, but it has some properties where it takes the lead when compared to cotton.
